The bovine genome has been fully mapped and published showing evolution over years of natural selection and human breeding. One of the more interesting findings follows:

Both types of cattle show evidence of natural selection in genes that appear to be involved in making the animals—large, horned and potentially dangerous—docile. In some breeds, specific variants of behavior-related genes are “fixed,” or seen in essentially every animal. Curiously, some of those genes are in regions that in the human genome seem to be involved in autism, brain development and mental retardation.

This is especially interesting after reading Dr. Temple Grandin’s Thinking In Pictures. Dr. Temple Grandin is a high-functioning autistic famous for her work as a consultant to the livestock industry in animal behavior. She has long expressed that she relates more with cows than other people.

I find the possible correlation between her special relationship with cows and these similar autistic gene findings very intriguing.

1. Her findings would have been a lot more helpfull if she had a population of wild cows to actually check against. Even with the lack of other evidence it will hopefully give scientists a place to look to help minimize or cure this horrible disease.

1. Autism is really a serious and I think we should spread the awareness about this to as many as people. Problem with Autism is very few people knows about this and some time parents do not understand their kids.

1. I think people should know about it and government of every country should start a campaign on these kind of disease. Main thing and main criteria is government should made people aware about this and they should also tell where they will be able to get the cure.
