I get it, Ron Paul has a huge internet support base. I’d even consider looking deeper into his positions but here’s the kicker: I can’t find one blog that isn’t the same generic crap being spewed at me.
When you can’t find negative information on a candidate there is something wrong with them. I’ll repeat that. When you can’t find negative information on a candidate there is something wrong with them.
I’m happy to vote for the guy if anything posted about him is true and not some part of a twisted huge internet based campaign, but I can’t find a single blog noting his bad qualities which worries the fuck out of me. All it means to me is that he has some smart page-rank wizards to help run his campaign.
Perhaps I am incredibly naive to want some honest-to-goodness facts about candidates. Is there such a thing as information without spin?

Well,
there isn’t much to say about the guy, up till now he’s pretty much kinda stuck to his district and did his own thing. I mean the worse the muckrackers have been able to come up with is small spam scandal a newsletter he didn’t write.
I mean the media is trying realllly hard discedit him, that’s got to say something.
DOn’t listen to me or any other Ron Paul fan, just watch his interview “Cadidates @ Google” at youtube he goes into very vivid details about his ideas. At this point, if you don’t like his ideas, don’t vote for him, if you do, vote for him.
All I say, is let him speak, then decide.
Well about the only “dirt” I have seen dug up on him is that he has passed on to the appropriations committee earmark requests he receives from his constitutents. To me it’s not a big deal because everyone does it and the funds would be spent by other departments if earmarks weren’t used. But that is all I have ever found. I think there are no “skeletons” in his closet. ronpaullibrary.org has a bunch of his statements on policy issues.
It’s interesting that you can’t find negative things written on Ron Paul. The neo-con smear machine has been attacking him non-stop ever since the first Republican debate. They’ve attributed quotes to him to convince people he’s racist. They mock his 30-year stand against the Federal Reserve and for sound monetary policy. Left wingers attack him for wanting to downsize the federal government… The list is pretty endless.
I would suggest listening to the man himself. Do a youtube search for “ron paul” and watch the top 6 or 7 videos. The Google interview vid is really good. Also search youtube for the Ron Paul PBS NewsHour interview - that’s also very good.
Also keep in mind that Ron Paul has been saying the same things for many years - and has a voting record to back it up. I think he is more honest and has more wisdom than any politician I’ve ever seen in my life.
I’ve tried really hard to dig up dirt on Ron Paul.
Although I’m making progress on tracking down the newsletter story (which was based on a repost to usenet of what was ostensibly in the newsletter),
I haven’t found much else of negative interest, and found much to admire. Details of my frustration and investigation are on my blog.
C’mon guys, give me a little more credit than that.
You expect me to believe that you all just stumbled randomly onto this dead weblog and all posted pretty much the same thing on a brand new entry I made about Ron Paul?
Look I can do it too:
“Wow I was looking for bad stuff about Ron Paul, but he’s actually a cool guy.”
This is the spin machine in work.

Etan,
What got me interested is the info on him through wikipedia - Ron Paul wikipedia info, which also covers the newsletter controversy. To say you won’t look deeper into his positions because you can’t find any dirt is pretty lame. Why do you think so many people are backing him in a grassroots effort?

As a general rule, the less successful a person is at running his own life, the more inclined he is toward wanting to run everyone else’s. Thus Bill Clinton is a sex maniac, George W. Bush is a burnt-out alcoholic, and Rudy Giuliani is a first-class nut case.
Perhaps politicians who truly favor small government tend to have their lives together.
I haven’t red any dirt on Ron Paul, but I won’t be voting for him. While I have heard some of his thoughts, I do agree with only some of what he says in regards to foreign policy. However, his domestic agenda is too conservative for my tastes and I simply don’t agree with them.
