My house has a wasp infestation. At first I thought they were bumble bees but in doing research the insects look much more like Yellowjacket wasps.

I’m going to be contacting the landlady ASAP but in the mean time I’m hoping someone knows some sort of trick to keep them out of my room. I have had a fear of flying, stinging bugs since I can remember and it makes this all the worse… :whimper:

  1. Yikes!

What I would probably do is see if I could crash at a friend’s house for a few days while the building’s owners do something about the problem.  I hate wasps.

If it makes you feel any better, my apartment has been without heat and hot water for the last 3 days.  I just took a shower by heating pots of water on the stove and distributing it into various pitchers and cups which I used to pour it on myself.  Allegedly the building’s boiler is in the middle of being replaced.  If I don’t hear from the management company tonight I’m filing a complaint with the city.

  1. A Jew who doesn’t like wasps?  This is news?

Anyway, yellowjacket wasps are the weakest type of wasps out there.  You can find them anywhere in NYC as well.  I remember shooing them off while having lunch at school or in the parks department daycamp.  I found them to be less agressive than mosquitos so my suggestion is to find out where/how they are coming into your place and plugging the holes.  Then just kill off the ones inside your apartment.  And be sure to tell your landlord about it.

If you’re lucky and a cold-spell hits, they will hibernate and killing their nest—wherever that is—is pretty easy. There are special wasp sprays out there and they all recommend that you wait until them middle of the night—when they are all back in their nest resting—to get them.  But if you are not sure of how to do that, then don’t.

  1. There is probably some nest nearby. Try to find the nest and remove it in some quick manner that reduces the chance of getting stung.

  1. Smokem Out

That’s the best way to make em get out of there. They get all passive and you can take care of business. Is this inside or outside?

  1. I like wasps, but I agree with you they can be dangerous. Wasps are attracted by sugar or by liquid soap. You can put some water and sugar in a bottle and create a trap

Be sure not to disturb them: if they attack all together, they are really dangerous.

    Good luck !!  smiley1
